Labor Day Pig Roast

By Phil Torre

Sunday my father in-law had a Labor Day pig roast on the deck at his restaurant, Dolphin's Cove in Bridgeport, CT. They cooked a 166 pound pig on a homemade spit, it was pretty awesome and I thought I would share a few pictures.

Pig on Spit
Still cooking. My mouth was watering at this point.

Gary Turning Pig
My brother in-law Gary turning the spit. The spit was not turning continously, it was turned manually at different intervals and when one part of the pig was cooked, they would turn it up and slice meat off while the rest was still cooking over the fire.

Brian Slicing Pig
My other brother in-law Brian slicing off some pig for hungry friends waiting patiently.

Pig Ravaged
What was left near the end of the day. There was actually still a lot of meat left at this point, especially around the legs. But don't worry, we managed to do a lot more damage to it by the time the cookout ended.

The Perfect Scoop
I must start this review off with an apology. There is no excuse for waiting until mid-August to post a review of The Perfect Scoop. If this is the first you are hearing of this excellent book on all things ice cream, then I have let over two months of prime ice cream making and eating time this summer slip through your grip.

Summer's Bounty: Tomatoes
Mid-July through August is sometimes referred to as the Dog Days of Summer, but for me they are something special, the Tomato Days of Summer.
